We visited the Amach Modern Secondary School, a private day and boarding school set in a rural area of the Lira District in Uganda. For perspective: the Lira District is in Northern Uganda, and the Kamwenge District (where all the other schools we have visited so far are located) is in the Southwest. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures of the school. Instead, take a look at the interactive map of Lira district below.

Explore the Lira District in Uganda by zooming in or trying the satellite view.

The Amach Modern Secondary School much larger than the others we have worked with — it has about 1,600 students, most of whom have a background in poverty. We met the oldest three classes, which are called Senior 4, 5, and 6. The students in Senior 6 are in their last year, and they are preparing to attend university.

This is where the Lira District is in context.

We received so much positive feedback from the students! A lot of the students told us that the Venture U workshop was the first of its kind for them. Many of them are already entrepreneurial — like Odur, who pays his own tuition by doing manual labor like burning charcoal and digging. They told us the workshop inspired them to keep pursuing their work. We left them with the complete Venture U package to kickstart their businesses, and we expect to see the fruit of their labor later!
