An A1 Day

I had the best travel experience earlier this year. As I checked into my flight to Orlando, I discovered I was boarding position A1. Anyone who has flown Southwest before knows what I’m talking about. Ultimately, this shouldn’t be a big deal and yet I found myself incredibly happy to have the opportunity to be the very first person onto the flight.

It was a small thing but it completely altered my experience. With no assigned seating, did it really matter? Probably not. But somehow the small difference of being A1 instead of A31 made my day.

The experience made me think of my own clients — how can we find small ways to make someone’s day? Tweet at someone, provide excellent customer service, or even just use common sense in dealing with an issue. In the end, it will be the small things, not the big gestures that create brand advocates. And that’s what it’s all about. Create brand advocates and not just customers. Create passionate brand evangelists for your brand.
