Bertie is concentrating on wrapping a long scarf from her hat to her chin and back again. She mustn’t forget the hat this time; forgetting it makes her cheeks sun-blotched. Because her cheeks are generally pink to begin with, sun-blotching makes her look as though she has bright red apples glued to her face, and she does not like it.
