From the Crowdfire Stories Podcast 📻

Roman Kruglov has the best job in the world. Though photography has always been his passion, he didn’t know he’d make a living out of it when he moved from Moscow to NYC at seventeen. His passion only grew stronger over the years and he now gets to photograph the wonder that is New York City every day as a cityscape photographer.

His photographs are beautiful depictions featuring the architecture of the skyscrapers and the bright yellow of taxis speeding by filled with the stories of dreamers that inhabit the Big Apple. It’s not always easy to pursue a creative career, but Roman has found a unique approach to it. Social media is key to how Roman finds his audience and his buyers. And he’s here to tell us how. So let’s get right to it 👉

Short on time? Here are five take-aways from this episode:

  1. Don’t fear contributing to stock images! Roman sells some of his work to stock photography agencies. He finds them through social media and shares photos they might be interested in buying.
  2. Social media is a photographer’s best friend! He uses social media to network with potential buyers. He says that consistency and patience are crucial to social media success and to getting your work in front of buyers’ eyes.
  3. If you have a unique skill, share it! Roman teaches workshops to help photographers learn how to market themselves. This is another way to get your name out as an expert in your industry.
  4. Don’t make your social media marketing about followers. It’s about your work! He explains that he’s met photographers who get so wrapped up in vanity metrics like number of followers that they forget that showcasing their best work is the most important element online.
  5. Don’t play with editing too much. You want to have a style to your photos. It’s best that your photos have similar editing, colors, tones, and your own vision in terms of angles and subjects.
