How To Make It In The Music Industry

From the Crowdfire Stories Podcast 📻

Chris Thomas, or Boom as he likes to be called, found inspiration watching a Justin Timberlake music video. That’s when he decided to change paths from professional magician to professional musician. Now, he’s a signed artist building his own platform to help promote other artists.

His marketing expertise and broadcasting experience have given him a unique blend of skills to grow his own musical career and help others make it as well. Boom tells us all about what inspires his music, how he got into live streaming, and why he created his singing box persona.

So let’s get right to it 👉

Short on time? Here are five take-aways from this episode:

  1. Quality is more important than forced deadlines. Even if a single song takes an entire year to write, Boom is comfortable with that because it’s more important that each song be the best it can be than get a certain number of songs written by a deadline.
  2. Take advantage of new platforms! Being an early adopter makes it easier to become an influencer on that platform. Then, you can direct those people to your primary pages. Look out for up and coming trends and ride the new wave to capitalize on popularity.
  3. People want to feel like they aren’t alone. By creating songs and telling stories about an average person’s feelings you provide them with an outlet where they feel they aren’t alone. That’s more powerful than singing about money, cars, or clothes.
  4. It’s not about using all the notes it’s about making the ones you use impactful. Boom originally pursued voice lessons to scale notes but a great voice instructor taught him this valuable lesson. Now, he just focuses on his music truly conveying his emotion.
  5. Don’t overstretch yourself. When you’re trying to be an influencer on every single platform you spread your following thin. Instead, if you focus and build up to influencer status on one platform you can create the cult following you’re looking for.
