Beautiful beaches, great food, amazing culture, and Antonio — that’s what you’ll find in Cancun. Antonio is one half of a husband-wife YouTube channel. He and his wife travel and film videos to inspire the world to venture out with some of their best videos designed to bring people to their own home in Mexico. They learned photography, videography, editing, and marketing to make their YouTube channel successful and are now a great resource for all the skills potential YouTubers need to find their own way to success.

Antonio in particular has always been truly authentic and empathetic. He explains in the podcast how understanding other people’s emotions is just one of the many skills necessary for a successful YouTuber. He’s personally witnessed YouTube grow and evolve over the past six years and touches upon some of the significant changes to the platform. Antonio’s here to help us learn how to grow a YouTube channel and the differences between connecting with a local vis a vis international audience online. Let’s get right to it 👉

Short on time? Here are five take-aways from this episode:

  1. Be engaged with your followers. Without them you don’t have a career on YouTube. Reply to every message and treat them with the respect they deserve for supporting you.
  2. Understand your platform. A lot of understanding YouTube is understanding how search engine optimization works there and how videos are suggested to viewers. If you want to find success, focus on one platform of your choice. Understand the users and how they find content on it. Get to know it all inside out.
  3. Use the other platforms as a way to stay engaged with your fans and to attract a new audience. Just because Antonio focuses on YouTube doesn’t mean he’s not active on Twitter. He still uses the other social networks to remind his audience of new videos and to get in touch with people who might be interested in his channel.
  4. Think globally. Keep in mind different languages. Make translations available to your audience. Sometimes, it’s easier to read than listen and understand. When you’re creating content consider how it will be received in other cultures. Don’t hesitate to reach out to people and ask how they think you can improve to be more loved in their culture.
  5. Know what’s popular. Then, find the parts of it no one is talking about yet. Antonio realizes Cancun is very popular but there are elements that don’t get the attention they deserve such as the underground rivers and Mayan culture. So he capitalizes off the popularity of people searching for things to do in Cancun by being the channel people come to for all the tips no one else has given out yet.
