Making Jazz Rock From All Over The World With Capra Hircus

Meet Capra Hircus, an international jazz rock band. Named after the Latin nomenclature for goats, Capra Hircus describe themselves like so — “We are funky. We are jazzy and we like to have fun.” Their sound is as innovative as the concept of internationally spread out band-mates. These young friends live across the US and Japan yet they still make music together.

Not only do they create wonderful jazz rock fusion, they’re successfully marketing their band online as well. With day jobs as English teachers and dieticians, they don’t have any real expertise in marketing aside from some college radio work. So, how are they making social media work so well for them? We sat down with one of them to talk about how they make it all happen. Let’s get right to it 👉

1. You define your own limitations. In this digital age, creators can collaborate across the globe to produce work just as exceptional as they would if they all lived on the same street.
2. Be consistent in your content creation. The band has a schedule to publish one song per week. Their consistency gives their audience an expectation.
3. To build a fan base, start as small and as strong as you can. You’re better off with ten raving fans than a hundred people who are lukewarm about your content.
4. Invest in yourself. If you’re going to make music, invest in good recording equipment. If you’re going to make videos, invest in a high quality video camera.
5. If your niche is uncommon, find a way to tie it into the mainstream. While Capra Hircus’s music is unique they make it more approachable by giving it both a rock feel and a jazz influence.
