I believe that knowing Social Media in and out and one of the most essential things for the marketers. We the marketers keep our eyes and ears open and look out for all the information we can from Facebook groups to Whatsapp communities to Slack communities to newsletters and whatnot!

We too have one of those ‘Social Media Updates’ newsletter. I curate it and it is good. Trust me ;)

You can subscribe to it here —

You might think woah… who asks to subscribe right at the beginning of a blog post?! Well, I did.

Additionally, we also share ALL the Social Media news on our Twitter. So, you can follow us there as well — Crowdfire.

Now, let’s get to the real content 💥

What happened on Social Media this week!

LinkedIn

We all have been waiting for LinkedIn Stories and guess who got them last week? Australia! Yes, LinkedIn released Stories for Australia. So now the Stories feature is live for Australia, Brazil, France, the Netherlands, and the UAE.

Read more about it here.

TikTok

Last week TikTok released a proper breakdown on how TikTok algorithm works and how you can be on the #ForYou page.

This week is major! TikTok launched TikTok for Business in select regions. It’s a self-serving ads platform.

The tagline has my heart ❤

Don’t Make Ads
Make Tiktoks

WOW! That copy is bound to touch your heart. But the best one is-

Don’t Make Ads
Make someone’s day!

Additionally, TikTok launched #MyPride initiative that includes creative effects, sticker packs, etc. They’ve pledged $3 million to LGBTQ+ organizations and are calling on their users to support it with the sticker. AND they said and I quote 👇

“To honor those creators who are paving the way in the LGBTQ+ community, today, in collaboration with FLAUNT, we are announcing the inaugural TikTok Trailblazers. The TikTok Trailblazers are 25 LGBTQ+ creators who are defining what it means to embrace self-pride and live their lives to the fullest.”

Read more about all this here.

Instagram

Instagram expanded Reels, a Tiktok kind of feature, to more regions. (Not our region 😞 WHY INSTAGRAM?).

It was made available in Brazil in November 2019 and now it is available in France and Germany.

Instagram has also updated the eligibility criteria for eCommerce. You can read more about it here.

Facebook

There is a LOT going on here.

  • Launched a new app called Forecast — a community for crowdsourced predictions and collective insights. Here’s what they’ve to say about it -

Forecast is a place to ask questions and use in-app points to make predictions about the future. All questions are submitted by the community and then moderated for clarity, using Forecast’s moderation guidelines and Facebook’s Community Standards”

  • Added a new limited data use setting to help businesses under CCPA. You can read more about it here.
  • Is rolling out new tools for broadcasters. Read more.
  • Added a warning screen to stop users from sharing old info. Now that is good. Read more.

Twitter

They improved the algorithm a bit and introduced more ads in your feed. Are you seeing more than usual ads lately?

Wanna get into the technicalities? Read more.

YouTube

Some interesting updates here!

  • Some new resources for the creators.

ToolKit

  • Summer camps for kids! YASSS. #CampYouTube
  • Announced winners of The YouTube Works 2020 awards! Those ads are 💣 You must watch them all.
Check out the top 20 videos!
  • Started testing Shorts, something similar to TikTok 🤷‍♀

Snapchat

So Snapchat published new data on how the users are staying safe/ healthy during this pandemic.

Here’s the report.

Some screenshots

Snapchat also shared the predictions for the rest of 2020 based on last 6 months.

I find this News trend report fascinating. Read the report.

People are into growing plants, meditation and fruits. Now that is definitely good.

Pinterest

Okay, so nothing noteworthy for the week but last week they published a report on emerging eCommerce behaviour. Read it here.

Also, we at Crowdfire launched Pro edit composer 😎

So that you can

  1. Customise posts for specific accounts.
  2. Still post on all the networks with a single click (best time).
  3. Be sure that you’re posting in the format native to the social network.

You can check it out on our iOS app.

So that’s pretty much all about this week.

Bonus:

If you’re into Instagram marketing you should check this out on Social Media Examiner.

Sam loves being on top of all the news and trends. It’s her thing.
