So, What happened on Social Media this week 👇

Instagram

When the #BlackLivesMatter campaign started Instagram pledged to work on reviewing the ways Instagram could be underserving certain groups of people. There’s an update on it.

  1. New Equity Team — A dedicated product group to focus on better understanding and addressing bias in our product development and people’s experiences on Instagram.
  2. Updated Harassment and Hate policies — Updated policies to more specifically account for certain kinds of implicit hate speech, such as content depicting blackface, or stereotypes about Jewish people.
  3. Verification — An account must meet certain criteria before they verify it, including a degree of notability. They measure notability through press articles about the person applying for verification. They’ve now expanded our list of press sources we consider in the process to include more Black, LGBTQ+, and Latinx media.
  4. Distribution — Is the content worthy of explore? Instagram looked into that aspect as well and the explore is changing.

Facebook

  • More mental health support tools for 👇
    Addressing potentially harmful content
    Launching crisis support over chat
    Helping educators #chatsafe with students
    Creating new Instagram Wellness Guides
    Supporting industry guidelines

  • Launched Data Use Checkup > What is that? Well, to maintain a safe and thriving developer ecosystem it is important to make sure that the developer community adheres to the terms and policies (that are everchanging). So, now there’s a place to understand these terms and policies more clearly.

  • Launched Facebook campus — this is to facilitate connection amongst college students.

Facebook Campus is a dedicated section of the Facebook app designed for students, with a Campus profile that’s different from their main Facebook profile.

  • Launched “Get digital” program to improve digital literacy among school students.

  • Announced new limits on no. of ads pages can run concurrently. They call it — Improving Ad Performance Through Ad Volume Guidance. So basically, if you’re running a lot of ads, it becomes difficult for the network to show it to a wider target audience. So, the solution is to reduce the number to ads to show better results.

  • Some users will be able to watch Instagram Stories on Facebook.

Twitter

Twitter updates policies to further protect the civic conversation

The existing Civic Integrity Policy targets the most directly harmful types of content, namely those related to

  1. Information or false claims on how to participate in civic processes
  2. Content that could intimidate or suppress participation
  3. False affiliation

Starting next week, Twitter will label or remove false or misleading information intended to undermine public confidence in an election or other civic process.

LinkedIn

A lot of us don’t have LinkedIn Stories yet. Reason? It hasn’t been released in most of the countries 🤷‍♀

Now, LinkedIn is test links in the Stories.

Now you can use stitch — a feature that allows users to re-use snippets of other people’s video clips to create responses and remixes on the theme.

TikTok has also launched a Marketing Partner Program for Advertisers.

TikTok says

“We’re building new opportunities for marketers to be creative storytellers and meaningfully engage with the TikTok community [and] we’re thrilled to collaborate with some of the most strategic and trusted leaders in the advertising industry and continue giving marketers access to more tools to successfully create, measure and optimize ad campaigns on TikTok.
