Their product is an alternative advertising and monitisation model based on human networks of influencers on social media.

Their system is built on the EOS blockchain which allows a seamless, transparent and immutable sharing of value across a network of marketplaces.

The Internet of Culture

Tech Companies are Fashion Companies.

An intangible set of factors for the adoption of a technology is very similar to the dynamics that operate in fashion:

  • Trends: technologies follow trends and hype cycles such as cloud computing, VR or blockchain in the same way as fashion has its hype cycles and follows trends.
  • Peer-validation: like fashion styles, technologies are spreading following the same curve of diffusion of innovation. Consumers inspire each other starting from trendsetter, via the early-adopters to the masses.
  • Programming languages: in the same way designers need communities of followers to establish a trend; programming languages need developers to adopt them. Once a language is established, it can grow and receive an endorsement from key projects, startups or famous founders.
  • Most significant innovations such as the PC, the modern smartphone or the electric car were adopted thanks to the creation of products designed as fashion brands. Since the effort required to change our habits comes at a cost, it is crucial to override reason and leverage the power of cultural marketing and status.

When Social Platforms Lost Cultural Neutrality While most social platforms are culturally agnostic, focusing on convenience and open to a wide diversity of users, for others, the line between technology and culture is getting increasingly blurrier, causing a cultural nichification of the Web:

  • Main social platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter are consistently accused of being politically biased in their moderation
  • The blog platform Tumblr has become the home of the arty Social Justice Warriors
  • The content aggregator Reddit and the messaging app Telegram were taken over by the crypto communities and the so-called “Crypto Bros.”
  • The content aggregator Pinterest established its aesthetics and culture made of motivational memes, infographics and cooking recipes
  • #blacktwitter is another phenomenon where a culture is attached to a platform It is quite apparent that with the saturation of technologies and CMS, and the formation of digital cultures, this segmentation of the Internet will become more natural and create opportunities to use cultures, identities and beliefs as a vector of diffusion of innovation online.

Neo-tribalism and Digital Subcultures

Cultures are formed through the intuitive and sensorial experience of life in a specific environment such as a family or a local community. As our time spent on the Internet is overcoming the time spent in the real world, and considering the power of online tools for the spread of sound and images, we have entered a new paradigm of cultural creation and evolution.

Online culture follows the path of globalised media industries, which segmented cultures and subcultures, no longer based on geography, but instead based on taste and preferences. For instance, the “black metal” subculture is not a local culture such as a village, but rather an entirely geographically distributed village made of fans who share the same aesthetics and tribe leaders, the black metal bands, and feel a sense of community, trust and closeness with each other.

While religions were the result of old technologies of information such as the oral traditions or books, modern CULTures are the result of TV, radio, advertising, billboards and new means of transportation enabling the formation of international communities of believers.
