An abridged account of a current CrowdJustice crowdfunding case:

Hiller, PC, a boutique law firm comprised of 6 lawyers, is challenging the scheduling of cannabis as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. In doing so they are suing Attorney General Jeffrey Sessions, the US Department of Justice, Charles Rosenberg, the US Drug Enforcement Agency, and the United States of America.

They believe the scheduling of cannabis as a Schedule I drug is rooted in bigotry and an effort to suppress political opposition to the Vietnam War, as opposed to the government’s claims about the danger associated with the drug.

The lawsuit is brought on behalf of numerous individuals: Alexis Bortell and Jagger Cotte are young children who seek legal access to cannabis as life-saving medication; Jose Belen is a US military veteran who suffers from PTSD and believes cannabis can help minimize, if not eliminate, veteran suicide; Marvin Washington, is a retired NFL player and Superbowl champion.

If the case succeeds, cannabis would be de-scheduled.
