The People’s Challenge to the Government regarding Brexit, which crowdfunded £170,550 from nearly 5,000 people, went all the way to the Supreme Court and ultimately confirmed that an Act of Parliament was needed before Article 50 could be triggered.

In one of the most important constitutional cases in British history, this case set out to decide whether the Government or the democratically elected Sovereign Parliament can decide when and how the UK leaves the EU. The stakes at play were the rights of all 65 million UK citizens.

For these reasons, Grahame Pigney organized his CrowdJustice campaign — and tapped into a vein of public sentiment that Parliament must retain its Sovereignty and that the Government respects that Sovereignty. In a monumental win for UK citizens, the case ultimately went to the Supreme Court where the Court agreed with the people and required a vote in Parliament over the issue.
