The Art Salon
This event showcased creative and innovative initiatives based in the Philippines and had a mix of different items and works of creativity on display. From Bamboo bikes to haircuts to earrings to paintings there was something to see for everyone.
But how did this all come together?
You might be thinking that it’s pretty random to have an event that has haircuts, sexy brofies (a photo collection by Rafael Fuchs-Simon), paintings and jewellry… in a coworking space and I would definitely agree.
This event snowballed from its original idea as just a hair studio pop-up in collaboration with Koop Studio. I also wanted to get people into the Crown Spaces. I was thinking “how do I get people to come to an event like this, would people want to just watch someone get their haircut?”
I figured it would also be nice to look at something else, so why don’t I contact some artists and try to get a couple of pieces on the walls. Luckily, I got in touch with 2 great artists Rafael Fuchs- Simon(@rafitobaby on IG) and Melissa Lara (@melissalaraart on IG) who agreed to display some of their art. Melissa brought 5 awesome pieces of paint on canvas and Rafael brought some of his crazy creative things like kimonos made from different types of fabric and his photos printed on aluminum.
Lucky for me, these 2 had friends and told me it would be great to get some different things on display. Melissa recommended I get in touch with her friend Mia who makes amazing earrings (@arete.ph on IG). They only use materials sourced in the Philippines and help employ single and stay at home women.
I was also able to reach out to Bryan from Bambike, a company that makes bamboo bikes, amongst other bamboo items, and does tours with these bikes around different parts of Manila. He agreed to let us display his bamboo bikes but also offered his Bambox which is where the haircuts ended up happening.
This was an opportunity for Koop to showcase the style of their salon and have their own space to design for the event.
Overall this was a really great first event for Crown Spaces and I really enjoyed organising and collaborating with all the different people involved. Looking forward to having a lot more events in the space from art to business!
