“Being trustworthy is really about integrity — doing what you say you are going to do in the timeframe promised with consistent, dependable, reliable follow through.”

Human Resources employees are always there when you need them. It helps more when one of those people is a friendly face and someone you know you can trust. Meet Amy Ashburg, an organization development consultant for the City of Charlotte in Human Resources (HR).

Amy rejoined the city last year, but she’s not a new face to the city. She previously worked in the city’s HR department from 1998–2006. In Amy’s current position, she works with various departments and clients to assist with their needs. Her role facilitates the capacity for strategic change, growth, effectiveness and efficiency. Every day, her work changes depending on what clients need. These needs may include planning retreats, evaluating organizational structure, change management consultation, coaching, training or team building.

At the core of her work is trustworthiness. As Amy meets with internal clients, she takes them through a joint process, helping them get from point A to point B and relies on the information provided in these meetings. She explores their needs in-depth as they vary widely. “Without trust, this joint process would not be possible.”

CIP Shared Learning Session Presentation

She’s recently working on the Community Investment Plan (CIP) Shared Learning Sessions. Planning included meeting with inter-departmental sub-teams, project managers, subject matter experts and presenters, and helping to design activities and agendas. The two sessions held so far and both had great attendance and feedback. Through these sessions employees working on CIP discussed successes, challenges and best practices for the program. They also were able to share information between teams. Amy is looking forward to planning more sessions for CIP.

The city is full of great, talented and motivating people which Amy says makes her job exciting.

“I love working with different people and projects and helping improve the organization in small but meaningful ways.”

One of the best parts of the job is witnessing positive change and growth in different clients.

It takes everyone in the city to make a trustworthy organization. Luckily, the city has people like Amy to have open and honest conversations with in order to improve the organization.
