5 years Crown blockchain. And decades to come!
  • Crown turns 5 on October 8th
  • The first block had a miner reward of 10 CRW and went to 1KSuRJCQTqMvZXuVj75fb18SZgmi6eCqX7
  • During these five years, over 23 million CRW were mined
  • Almost 19 million CRW remain to be mined
  • As of today, there are more than 2400 mining nodes

I am personally not a fan of anniversaries. Conmemorating historical dates and founding moments tends to condition the future, make the present static, and lends itself to linear and a-posteriori constructions of history. We know that many of today’s traditions were (re-)invented in the modernity and then dated back to ancestral times. Kingdoms, nations, associations, sports teams… they all resist through this strategy, they all have their founding myths to generate cohesion and sense of belonging among their communities. These myths produce what we normally call collective identity.

Anyone who is into crypto or participates in blockchain projects knows that identity is different in this world. That belonging is different. Traditionally speaking, identity is exclusive. We define ourselves in opposition to others and to the other. We define ourselves through difference. In Crown however, we are living examples of the “loose ties” social model. We all have different views and ideologies, that is not the reason we are part of the same network. We are part of it because at Crown, identity is defined through what brings us together in otherness, instead of separating us. In short: We are the others. So what do we share, then? A blockchain, a network of nodes, and long term goals of building a stable alternative to some of the biggest flaws of our economic and financial systems.

There is no myth around the founding of Crown. It is all registered on the blockchain and transparent as glass:

Created 10 CRW. In circulation 10CRW. Fair launch and transparent: The Crown blockchain

It is important to know that myths normally try to obfuscate the truth, which is seen to be not as beautiful as its latter (re-)construction, filled with narrative and heroism. In this concrete example, Crown’s first launch failed. That doesn’t sound too heroic, does it? Our luck is that the truth is sometimes much more simple and yet can hold greater beauty than the myth:

The first Crown launch failed because the communication on BitcoinTalk went wrong and miners could not participate from the beginning, so the chain was restarted for a fair-launch to be ensured.

Second try went better. The chain started shortly after the new wallets were out

Some hours later, Infernoman had already set up a mining pool for those who did not want to solo mine:

Infernoman’s mining pool was live a few hours after the mainnet launch

So this is what happened 5 years ago. And here we are, more than 2.5 million minutes (and blocks) later.
