I’ve fought a losing battle with my weight since hitting 40 when, after being at a comfortable 12 1/2 stones ( 80 kilos) for years, the pounds slowly started to pile on.

They continued to pile on until I hit 16 stones ( 101k) in my 60s.

I’m six feet tall so I can sort of get away with it, but there was no escaping what I saw in the mirror. Or that fact that my clothes were tighter, and I was fastening my belt buckles on the next notch up.

In January after seeing a post online about intermittent fasting, I thought I could give it a go.

It didn’t look hard.

Just don’t eat for 16 hours and 8 of those are when you’re asleep.

What could be easier?

The next day on a whim, I decided to skip breakfast and not eat until about two in the afternoon.

I did the first week and, I won’t lie, it was easy. No hunger pangs, no slump in energy, no craving for sweet things to give me an energy boost.

I could hardly wait to climb onto the scales at the end of that week.
