A senior community who wants to write

I’ve been spending more time in senior communities over the last few years. At first, it was because I had launched a series called “At My Pace,” which is full of digestible short stories written by a wide range of contributors. There was something for everyone in those books, and the stories spurred quite the conversation. I would leave each get-together marveling at the spunk and smarts of the seniors in attendance, and I would say to myself,

“I want to be like them when I get older.”

Then, I went to visit my sister, who lives on the opposite side of the country, and I was on a mission. I wanted to find a senior community that was worthy of her and that she could contribute to. Early indications are that we found an excellent place, and as I visited, I remarked again to myself,

“The old chevy is not that old in 2023. There is still a lot of firepower in the engine.”

All this is why senior communities have become one of my favorite demographics to connect with. Maybe it’s because I’m 65, and in the blink of an eye, I can see myself there.

So the call comes
