If a married couple includes one member who is ambulatory and one member who is not, there comes a time in any vacation when the ambulatory one will take off on his or her own. Toward the end of our Mexico City stay, it was time for me to head out alone. I made sure to share my location on Google Maps so my wife could track my movements. That way should I be abducted, she could promptly make a claim for a refund on my return plane ticket. With my electronic leash firmly attached, I headed out into the city

For reasons that are a mystery to me, I began my solo journey at a famous artists' market. Back in Portland, I wouldn’t be caught dead in an artists' market, but being in a different country made me think I had become a different person. On the Uber ride to this market, I passed Mexico Arena, the center of the universe for lucha libre, Mexican professional wrestling. We were scheduled to visit there that evening.

After battling traffic — there was heavy traffic everywhere during my stay — my Uber driver dropped me at a building containing a catacomb of small artists and craftspeople.
