Are You Contemplating a Move to a Retirement Community?

We are.

I don’t know if it is true where you live, but around here retirement communities are popping up everywhere.

My wife and I went to dinner last night with a group of long-time friends. My wife brought a picture of one of the members from long ago. She brought it out just after we had finished talking about our search for a suitable retirement community. The picture showed us at a much younger age. One friend asked if we had any idea back then that we’d ever be sitting there talking about retirement communities. Now, we are all at the age where contemplating a move makes sense.

To get a feel for what’s out there, my wife and I have visited several facilities. Some offer townhouses; most provide only apartment living. They all have something to offer.

So, how do we decide a) is the time right, b) are we mentally prepared, and if so, c) where to?

First Question: Is the time right?

Our son encourages us to look and continue looking until we find a suitable place. His reasoning: we should plan to move before we are forced to. We want such a move to be our own decision and at a time of our choosing, or as close to it as we can manage.

My Muse is in hiding, but we cross paths from time to time. I think I gave the old guy too much grief. Maybe he quit without notice.
