If one were to take a snapshot of a college campus today chances are good some type of protest would find its way into the picture.

What happened to the rigorous academic curriculum students are expected to face when parents shell out $60,000 or so for a year of education? All the young people seem to be doing is yelling at each other and making it impossible for any learning to take place in the very institutions specifically designed for just that.

Demonstrations covering many topics by concerned students on Palestine, Israel, LBGTQ, Black, Brown, Global Warming, and almost anything about which there can be a difference of opinion.

It’s the nature of the young beasts.

Conversation with the professor

I’m privileged to be friendly with a retired professor who taught at a prestigious Eastern university.

The other night, over dinner, we discussed the pervasive campus demonstrations everyone sees on the media.

“Brian, back in the ‘60s we participated in demonstrations with many of our fellow students. The reasons were basically the same as today: stop the slaughter in a foreign country, civil rights, and don’t forget free speech.
