I don’t know if I can handle this
Only scammers call at 7:00 a.m. Just because it’s 9:00 Eastern doesn’t mean I’m ready to answer the phone in Mountain.
Those calls usually go unanswered. I don’t even bother looking.
Perhaps I had a sixth sense that morning at 7:15 a.m. I looked at the display as the phone played its mesmerizing ringtone. It came from an area code I recognized and the name of a hospital I knew.
These are signs you should pick up the phone, so I did, knowing it would be bad news.
The nurse on the other end of the line said that Mom had taken a bad fall earlier in the morning. It was a really bad fall. The point of contact wasn’t her head, fortunately, but her rib cage. According to the nurse, she was lucky to be alive, given the damage.
Talk about a wake-up call.
