Upgrade or Die

Can you imagine having to upgrade your Toilet every year as the technology improves?

Toilet technology has, in fact, gotten a lot better over time, but we aren’t forced to go out and buy the new version. We keep using the old version until it breaks or we want to remodel the bathroom.

Similarly, house wiring has made a lot of progress, but unless and until the old knob and tube style is in your home and its been made illegal or your insurance carrier finds out about it, you can continue to operate quite easily. Even if it was installed in the late 1880’s it still carries electricity and the plugs haven’t changed. If the insurer finds out about it, you’ll be forced to upgrade, but otherwise it will keep working. Even when it is finally upgraded, the wiring will be upgraded with ROMEX, a technology that has been around since the 1930's.

We can drive cars as long as they last, even if it now qualifies for an “Antique” plate. It still fits on the road and can mostly keep up with traffic. We upgrade when we finally have to sell the beastie.

We like keeping things and often not thinking about the upgrades and changes when they happen.

Upgrade a toilet and it uses less water. Upgrade the wiring and your house is less likely to burn down. Upgrade…
