Do You Hate Waiting Room TVs as Much as I Do?
Why is noise pollution in public spaces okay?
Today’s pet peeve?
Blathering TVs in public spaces.
In particular?
Blathering TVs in doctor’s offices and hospital waiting rooms.
A Trip to the Hospital
Last week, I visited my local hospital to get a diagnostic X-ray. Having to get an X-ray is bad enough. But when I was shown to the waiting area, I was dismayed to see — and hear — that there was a large flat screen TV on the wall.
The TV, turned to a cable news channel, dominated the small room.
Some folks might thrilled to have a great big jibber-jabbing flat screen to keep them company while they’re waiting to get their X-ray.
Others, if they don’t want to watch a soap opera or a game show, are able to screen it out.
Unfortunately, I’m not like this. If there’s an Idiot Box on the wall blaring at me, I can’t escape into my phone or my daydreams. And striking up a conversation with my fellow humans is out of the question.
The noise coming at me from that screen on the wall is just too distracting.
