This picture reminds me of myself as a girl, slung across a bed, though I could also be found lying across two chairs under the kitchen table, on the floor in a corner, in a tree, or walking toward the bus stop, with a book in front of my face.

I have been reading steadily since I first learned how. I have gone through phases of thrillers, biographies, textbooks, Russian novels, classics, smut, history, politics, philosophy, cozy mysteries, seriously deranged mysteries, romance, fantasy, and almost every kind of book there is.

Now that I have retired from my social work career, I am getting a little fanatical about reading. It has been a long time since I had enough time to read as much and whatever I want. I plan to spend time each day reading.

I usually have several different kinds of books going at once. I buy some of them because I know they will take a long time, like biographies, or because I want to write in them (cookbooks). Most I get from my local library. I enjoy the fiction and non-fiction selections the librarian chooses and don’t mind experimenting with three or four when I visit.
