You know the type: the cocktail party bore who just has to get in the last word, whatever the topic. Some funnier folks carry this compulsion to the grave — and come up with hilarious epitaphs on their tombstones.

Sites like Pinterest, Twitter and Reddit often carry photos of funny tombstones. I’ve scoured a few such online “cemeteries” and “unearthed” a few of my personal favorites:

“I’m dead. Other than that, I’m fine.”

Catholic priest Father James Mallon says his Glaswegian father Ronnie always joked he’d put the above words on his gravestone. Ronnie got his last wish, and his son, Fr. James Mallon, was equally fine with it. In fact, he posted the photographic proof on Twitter, saying, “It’s funny, it feels like him, and it’s a Glaswegian reflection on 1 Cor 15:55.”

Not everyone was as “fine” with the finality of their situation as the upbeat Ronnie Mallon. The headstone of one annoyed fellow with the surname Mitchell complains, “WELL, THIS SUCKS.” (Twitter)

Lola S. Holt took a more stoical view. She shuffled off this mortal coil at age 81 with an uncomplaining “OH, WELL, WHATEVER” epitaph engraved on her headstone. (Pinterest) Edith Tina…
