Dating in your Golden Years can be a daunting experience.

I’m sure many of you can relate to the online dating site stories I’ve shared, filled with oddities, antics, and antisocial behaviors.

Jon, a new member of the Our Time dating site for mature people, caught my attention. We arranged a date, and from that moment, we’ve been navigating the complexities of a mature relationship. I was drawn to his warm smile and how his nervous jokes made me laugh. We’ve been working on whether we can adjust to each other’s quirks.

Last weekend, after another discussion about his habit of taking over conversations, Jon told me I was disrespectful. I was upset about being accused of this for the second time since we met. His understanding of disrespect differs from mine, and for the first time in our eight-month relationship, I questioned if we had a future. Being called disrespectful is equivalent to being called evil, malicious, and nasty in my world. The incident that led to this accusation was when I tried to share my thoughts on a topic, and he interrupted me (again) with his similar (sort of) story, dismissing mine.

Disrespectful behavior is any action that shows a lack of respect…
