Here’s Why No One Mentions My Massive Weight Loss

People see it differently when you’re older

This isn’t about my weight loss. It’s about how people have reacted to it and what it means.

First, let me explain what I did. I’ve lost 57 pounds in the last 14 months. I detail my full journey here, but essentially, the loss comes from my attempt to drop my blood sugar level into a normal range. To do this, I brutally eliminated almost all carbs, which caused my A1c level to fall from a high of 10.8 to 5.1, effectively eliminating my Type 2 diabetes.

This is a significant drop for someone my size. I started at 236 and am currently at 179 pounds. I’ve gone from wearing 2XL shirts to merely a Large. I even tried on a souvenir shirt I’ve had stuck in a drawer for 30 years, and it fit!

You’d think this would mean plenty of congratulatory comments from friends and family, right? “You look great!” or “You look amazing! How did you do it?”

You know what I really heard? Crickets.

This was confusing. I was in the best shape of my life, and nobody was noticing.
