If you’re two

You find Grandpa on the couch. You bring the box and put it on the floor. Then, you lie down next to Grandpa (or on Grandpa) and warm up for your Candy Land session by closing your eyes.

After your nap, you put the box back on the shelves.

If you’re three

You don’t know the rules yet and only want to pretend-play. You go to Grandpa for a warm-up session.

After your nap, you take the box and play with Grandma.

If you’re five

You know the rules now. You play with Grandpa once. You lose, you cry, and decide to play only with Grandma from now on.

She’s more mature than Grandpa (always has been) and doesn’t mind losing.

If you’re seven

You learned to lose gracefully with Grandma.

You play a few games with Grandpa, and at the end, you don’t put anything back in the box because Grandma will do it for you.

Instead, you go for ice cream and get two scoops if Grandpa has won. You quickly learn to lose gracefully and on purpose. It’s the first of many valuable life lessons Grandpa will teach you.
