My breath ceases, and my heart races. I open the stats on my Medium page to see if a recent story published on Crow’s Feet is boosted. It’s a heartfelt story about the last things I built with my Dad. I feel like a 1st grader waiting for my teacher to give me a scratch-and-sniff sticker.

Yessssss! There it is!

Who would have thought a tiny circle with a silly arrow in the middle could have such an impact on a 52-year-old? I smile and stare at the silly circle for a few extra seconds. It’s December 2024, and my 24th boosted piece for the year.

In January, Crow’s Feet invited me to their monthly writers’ meet-up. It was a welcome surprise as I was wrecked from a breakup, and my Dad is in his last chapter. The invite validated my dedication to the craft, as I have no formal education in writing. I prioritized writing over twenty years ago, inspired by the creativity of the people around me when I lived in New Zealand as a teacher.
