How to TransformYourself and Be More Inspired As You Age
Let the lessons from Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist be your guide.
I walked out of my second marriage when I was 65 with no plan and no one waiting in the wings.
I felt stuck in a situation that wasn’t good for me or my wife. My intuition kept telling me there was more for me on the other side, but I’d never know what it was if I didn’t let end my marriage and its relative safety and comfort.
Months before the ending conversation, I envisioned myself as a trapeze artist swinging high in the air, letting go of one trapeze and then grabbing another. The moment of release terrified me — letting go of the familiar and reaching for the unknown.
But what terrified me more was living an unfulfilled life — one defined by incompatibility and settling for comfort over growth and greater possibilities.
So, I let go of my trapeze and grabbed hold of the one swinging into uncharted territory.
The next few months were life-changing and full of serendipity. I’ll tell you what happened later in this piece, but first, I want to say a few things about the importance of transformation, particularly as we age.
