I May Never Find a Full-Time Job Again — One Year Update
Things have gone from bad to worse
On June 4, 2025, I will officially hit one year of unemployment. I documented my first few months in this story, but things have really gone down hill since then. Since I wrote that piece I have also turned 59 — not exactly the age one wants to be when looking for a new job.
I have been lucky enough to pick up several consulting jobs since then. One has panned out to be a year-long endeavor that will end in July. The other two are on an as-needed basis, but have helped me pay the bills. Nevertheless, I have relentlessly pursued a full-time job every day over the last year. I’ve tapped everyone in my LinkedIn network and applied to every job that I could find for which I was a fit.
Here are my job search statistics from the last 365 days:
- Jobs applied for: 341
- Employers that responded with, No thanks: 43
- No response at all: 287
- First round job interviews: 9
- Second round interviews: 2
- Job offers: 0
