Two glorious days after turning 60, I waltzed into my annual physical appointment.

The doctor’s words rang in my head long after floating out of his office on my rainbow of joy. He shook his head, smiling, and told me my labs looked great.

All clear on kidneys, liver, bloodwork, and mammogram.

“Keep doing what you’re doing, even though you’re going to put me out of business.”

We laughed.

The dopamine hit energized me throughout my daily errands. My hard work in breaking the code for optimal health paid off. I bragged to my younger cousin and reiterated that turning 60 felt great.

“This is my time, my time, to reap the bountiful gifts of health and wellness.”

The nurse called within a few hours and left a lengthy voicemail, an apology for a lab report oversight, and directives. Three rereads later, my heart regained its beat but surged erratically.

“Your bone density images show osteoporosis.”

Osteoporosis? Me?
