I’m 65. Last Month, I Had To Ditch Some Of My T-shirts
And it’s not because I’m too fat
Four years ago, we moved house and, after 13 years of karate training, I finally had to hang up my ‘gi’ as there wasn’t another dojo even remotely close to where we lived.
I still wanted to do something to keep fit, and three and a half years ago, my wife spotted an ad online. It was training sessions being run by an ex-army PTI at a local prison ( now disused ). I went along feeling reasonably confident in my fitness levels.
Wow, was I shocked! For about 6 months, I struggled. My cardio fitness (always my downfall) was nowhere near what I thought. My strength was ok but not great.
I kept going. I tried different classes: kettlebells, Hyrox, boxing, yoga, until I settled on good old HIIT ( High Intensity Interval Training )classes.
They are demanding and never the same twice. Sometimes I come out thinking, “That was ok” And others thinking “Never again”.
But I do go again.
And again.
And I’ve been going over and over again for three and a half years now. I love the challenge. I think my fitness has definitely improved, but here’s the thing.
