I’m About to Get My First Social Security Check

I just turned 70.

Although I could have started collecting Social Security when I turned 66, I could afford to wait to start collecting at age 70. I wouldn’t be getting checks for 4 years, but they’d be bigger once they started.

So I held off. A few months ago, I applied for Social Security. Which was surprisingly easy.

According to the government’s calculations, I should start getting a monthly check for $1,900, beginning next month.

Coincidentally, according to Google, the average Social Security check in 2025 is expected to be $1,900 per month.

Yay! I’m average!

Five years ago, a friend asked me if I thought she should start collecting Social Security at age 66, even though she could afford to hold off until she turned 70.
