I grew up in the ‘60s. It was a chaotic time.

Raised with such exciting things as the threat of nuclear annihilation, political assassinations, hurricanes, wars, and riots, it’s a miracle that most of our generation is normal.

At least, we think we are.

The saving grace of the times was the explosion of music. The ‘60s provided the most significant transition from the blues, swing, and jazz sounds of the ‘30s and ‘40s to the emergent folk and rock and roll sounds that became mainstream.

Music from my parents’ era saw the world through the ‘30s and World War II. It included Dean Martin, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Bob Wills, Glenn Miller, the Andrew Sisters and many more.

Much of their music was unique, smooth, and danceable, influencing the singer-songwriters of late ‘50s and ‘60s.

Music ran in my blood, at least a little. Although my ancestry excludes famous singers, my parents had good musical foundations.
