I’m Worried About Losing My Fire and Passion in Retirement
The last thing I want is to sit at home watching Netflix
Are your retired friends suffering from a lack of energy? Some of mine do, so I began asking them about it. A few said it was merely a case of age slowing them down, but others stated they were bored.
One close buddy admitted that retirement wasn’t working out the way he had hoped. He told me he had been looking forward to playing more golf, and for the first year, he did. He’s a scratch golfer who loves to compete, and he says he was golfing two to three times a week. But then he said the excitement started to wear off, and he found himself bored at home too often. The expensive greens fees didn’t help either.
His wife is still several years away from retirement, so she’s unavailable to travel with him, and he says he doesn’t like to travel alone. She works from home and says his sitting around the house with her all day drives her crazy. I will face a similar issue since my wife is ten years younger than me.
What my friend did was take a part-time job working as an usher for sporting events at a nearby university. He says he enjoys it because everyone who attends games is there to have a good time, and my friend has always been good with people.
