In Step With The Times
And the time has come to retire these heels.
I loved these shoes. Classic black suede pumps with a two-inch plus heel. They were versatile; in fashion lingo, they spanned “day to evening.” But now we must part.
They were expensive and I treated them well. They returned the favor by boosting my self-confidence by adding over two inches to my 5’8” height. They were critical to my wanna-be identity: I was an alpha girl in those shoes.
The black pumps escaped the clothing and “dress” shoe purge that followed retirement. Their utility had morphed from strategic to decorative. Their timeless beauty, paired with jeans or a cocktail dress, somehow made me, also, timeless. Or at least feel that way.
Until now.
Aging brought osteoarthritis to my knees; goodbye, high heels.
Osteoarthritis has settled into my knees. It is particularly acute in my left knee, exacerbated by a recent tibia plateau fracture. That’s where the “shin bone” meets the knee joint. Yeah. Ouch.
While the healing is complete, osteoarthritis means wearing heels two inches or higher is ill-advised.
