Is the American Dream Achievable?

It is important to note that I am writing this under the assumption that life will remain mostly the same after the election. By that I mean that if Trump wins, he will not immediately move to an autocracy and impose tariffs on everything. If Kamala Harris wins, I do not doubt that life as we know it will continue.

That said, this article was prompted by an article titled “America’s Top 10% Control 60% of the Wealth. The Bottom Half Holds 6%.” None of this is a surprise. Pew Research Center studies of the American middle class have shown a consistent decline in the size of the middle class.

The 2024 study shows that the middle class's household income began to decline sharply around 1980. In 1970, the middle class held 62% of household income, but by 2022, it declined to 43%.

So, the question is this: is the American dream still possible for our children and grandchildren?

Many people believe that the American Dream is no longer possible. If not dead, they see the American Dream as being on life support.

I have always believed that the American Dream is alive and well and achievable for our children and grandchildren. This is not simply because I am an eternal optimist. The facts support this belief.
