It’s National Typewriter Day!
Finally, something I can celebrate
Its website (National Typewriter Day has a website!) says, “We are using the day to celebrate the written word!”
Well, maybe the typed word too.
I just celebrate having anything to celebrate today. A brand new war with Iran, global starvation, the destruction of democracy — there’s just not a lot to celebrate. Plus, this was a bad day to tackle AT&T, which crowned my despair by eating up a frustrated hour or so. Do not think you can reach an actual human being with AT&T, even when you’re paying them hundreds of dollars a month for multiple accounts, one of which just quietly raised its price from $60 to $100 per month, but who’s counting?
In short, I was in despair. But then my calendar advised me of National Typewriter Day.
“To many,” the National Day people assert, “typewriters are a remnant of the past.” Uh, oh. Are they turning on me? Indeed. “They fell out of vogue in the 20th century.” So did I — but this is not mentioned on the website.
All, however, is not lost. The news continues. “The rise in hipster culture has made for a renewed popularity among young people.”
Let’s hear it for the hipster culture.
