It’s Time To Toss Your Old Journals

Reading them is not a good idea.

Do you have a stash of old journals hidden somewhere? May I ask why you’re hanging on to them?

I’m here to recommend that it’s time to dig them out and let them go.

You may have started keeping a journal when you were young because it seemed like a good idea. Maybe you thought it would be great to look back at your life when you moved up in years.

Maybe you thought or were told that keeping a journal would be good for you.

Psychiatrists suggest them often. The idea is for you to get your angst out of your brain and onto the page, thereby freeing your mind from bad feelings. Or you felt keeping a journal would give you clarity about your goals and dreams.

Maybe you thought it would be fun to someday look back to see what you had for lunch on May 31, 1984.

I’m not here to suggest writing in a journal is bad, there are definitely some benefits. The issue is what to do with them once you’re done.

My wife and I moved two years ago. We found a great 55 and older community. But with the change came the need to go through all the boxes that had been stashed away for years. One of those boxes contained numerous journals dating back to high school.
