Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest have been married for 40-plus years. Although they both read the same history books, they have little else in common, she’s said in interviews. “He’s an intellectual, and I was from the movie star/alcoholic/drug addict side, where education was not the most important thing.”

They don’t listen to the same radio station, don’t read the same paper, and don’t go to bed at the same time. So, what’s the glue that holds the bond together? Her answer: Accept that there “. . will be moments when you don’t love them.”

In fact, Curtis said, “Like, all of a sudden, you literally wanna hate each other. . .” One or several such moments might be enough in a less mature relationship to head for the door. But that’s the trick, Curtis said, you just roll with the punches (not literally) and know this too will pass.

A self-described ‘recovering addict,’ Curtis said there’s a phrase used in recovery, ‘If you stay on the bus, the scenery will change.’ And, you know, that’s marriage. You stay on the bus, the scenery changes.”
