Just Because You Don’t Want My Stuff Why Should I Have To Get Rid Of It?

Not all of us want to live out the rest of our lives as minimalists

Google “Nobody wants your stuff” and you will hit a gold mine of strident articles and videos that expound on the truth that the children of Baby Boomers don’t want their stuff. These adult children are insistent that their parents clear out their belongings before their children have to deal with it after their death.

I watched a video with an adult child of Boomers who is a professional organizer. She was giving tips to adult children on how to start a conversation with their parents during the holidays about all the shit their parents own and what they plan to do with it so the children won’t have to deal with it. Are you kidding me?

I don’t know about my fellow Boomers, but if my child came home for the holidays and walked around my house eyeing all my belongings and then insisted I had to do something with all of it before I died, that child would probably not be staying for apple pie.

Look, I get it. Our children are busy, have lives of their own, and have houses full of stuff. They don’t need any more. And it seems that the younger generations are not plagued by sentimentality. I’m not sure why they feel no need to have anything…
