He looked into her anguished face,
Full of pain and full of grace.

He smiled and gripped her wrinkled hand,
His feet touched the warming sand.

His voice was loud and very clear,
To someone frail and deaf of ear.

“You’re not dead yet, you’re only old,”
He said, so very brave and bold.

“So, c’mon Nanna, let’s go play,
Before we waste another day.”

And so they wandered hand in hand,
Along the shoreline, in the sand.
