Let’s Talk About Regrets
Those things in the rearview mirror
There are advantages and disadvantages to living a long life. One of the advantages is the memories of all the great things we did in life. A disadvantage is the regrets for some of the things we did or did not do.
Regrets. We all have them. What do we do with them?
There are many articles, podcasts and books that promise us the means for living a life without regrets. I’m not sure that such a thing is possible. No one lives a life that is devoid of mistakes and moments of, Oh no, I wish I hadn’t done that. Some of us do better than others in avoiding regrets, but in the end we all have them.
Regrets tend to fall into two categories. We have regrets for the things we did, and we have regrets for the things we did not do. Let’s look at each of those.
We all have a few regrets about things we may have done or said. Some of those may have even seemed like the right thing to do at the moment. But with the passing of time, we realize that they were not the right thing. Did we snap at a friend or relative without thinking and hurt their feelings? Maybe even destroy a relationship? Did we take some action or make a decision that didn’t turn out the way we planned?
