After searching for an assisted living and then a memory care facility for my elderly mother, I have one top tip that I like to share with people going through the same process. Here it is:

Get (and stay) on all the waiting lists.

That’s it. After a year of searching for an acceptable situation for my mom, and after nearly two years of her living in a care facility, that is the one thing I tell people that seems to surprise them.

It’s so important I’m going to say it twice. Get on all the waiting lists, and even after you choose one facility in which you or your loved ones are going to live, stay on all the other waiting lists.

Old age is coming for everyone

My friends and I are getting to the age where our parents or other elderly relatives are all starting to have serious health issues.
