News or Noise?
The metamorphosis of news & the death of critical thinking
I gave up on the news a long time ago. Because somewhere along the line the news stopped being news and started being entertainment.
And how fucked up is that?
We don’t have facts anymore. We have opinions. Other peoples’ opinions. Not ours. We are no longer allowed to think for ourselves. We are spoon-fed tidbits of information that reinforce whatever reality we might want to live in.
Note: I said whatever reality we might want to live in because you get to choose. Left-leaning ideology — there are loads of so-called news programs/channels that will pander to your way of thought. Right-leaning — same/same. Pick a channel, settle in, and prepare to have everything you ever thought was wrong with the world paraded through your living room for your viewing pleasure. And confirmed by any number of experts.
There are no facts anymore. Reality for each one of us is a nebulous thing we create in our mind’s eye and then reinforce by the news media we choose to follow.
In world events, in politics, in religion — each news source has a preferred audience and they pander to them unmercifully. The news had turned…
