New Facebook Group Just For “Ladies of a Certain Age”

The first thing that attracted me to The Ethel was the tagline — For Women Who Weren’t Born Yesterday.

An offshoot of AARP, The Ethel is a weekly online publication that offers articles of interest to older women. Common topics include beauty advice, caregiving support, healthy recipes, exercise, money management, and navigating relationships.

I have written for The Ethel on a few occasions. My pieces were about lessons from millennials, what I learned from Dr. Ruth, and when it’s time to stop sharing a bed with your partner.

The publication hosts online events with authors and has had a Facebook group for the past two years. Now, however, they have launched a new Facebook group called The Ethel Circle for women only and I am “here for it” as the youngsters say.

Knowing the group is comprised only of women brings about different topics and more openness in the discussion. In the few weeks since its inception, women have shared their feelings about retirement, loneliness, widowhood, friendships, long marriage and hobbies.

The group's mission is to “smash stereotypes around aging and celebrate life at every age” and so far, so good.

Reading the posts can be soul-stirring — one woman recently asked for advice…
