Turn on essential mental habits that help you thrive at any age.
As my father hit his eighties, I watched his happy world fall apart.
He was a hard worker who achieved considerable success and enjoyed his retirement until bitterness over a missed promotion at the end of his business career ate him up. Mr. Positive, in his younger years, sadly became unbearable for me and others to be around after about an hour.
Like many people, he believed the formula for happiness our culture sells us: focus on working hard and having things, and happiness will follow.

Wrong.
It’s all backwards.
Lasting happiness doesn’t come from having a pile of money in the bank, or from people, places, or things.
Happiness is an internal state of mind, independent of our circumstances.
Developing our being, our inner self, is the key to finding more contentment and happiness as we age.
Why? Because our “being”—our attitudes, mindset, beliefs, feelings, self-talk, and subconscious mind—influences everything we do and have in life.
