Questions to Answer Before Retiring Overseas
It is about more than the cost of living
Regular readers of my articles are aware that in 2021, my wife and I sold our home in North Carolina, along with everything we owned except for one car, and relocated to Mazatlán, Mexico. For the next year and a half, Mazatlán was our home. In fact, in July 2022, we applied for and received temporary Mexican residency.
As we headed back to Mazatlán with our residency in hand, we believed that we would live in Mexico for many years. However, life happens, and we found ourselves back in the United States in February 2023. At that time, we thought that we would soon return to our life in Mexico. Today, April 28, 2025, we are still living in Arizona and know that we will never return to a life in Mexico.
In addition to my personal experience, I have been working since 2021 with numerous American retirees who spend all or most of their time living in Mexico. Sadly, I often have the opportunity to speak with those who have decided to return to the United States.
