Recycling Rejects: My Trash Confession

I don’t recycle some items anymore

I have been a big believer in recycling since the very first Earth Day and have recycled or reused everything I can. I used to save aluminum to take to redeem for cash but decided that just wasn't worth it. If we didn’t give it to our late friend, D, to redeem for gas money we just dropped it in the aluminum bin.

I have been known to wash plastic Ziploc bags to be reused as long as possible. Alas, that activity has fallen by the wayside as time has gone by.

As of yesterday I am no longer taking glass to the recycling station. As I have gotten older, it is more difficult and more inconvenient to do so.

Back when we lived just outside of town, we had to bring all our recycling in to dispose of it. The annoying thing was they instituted curbside recycling in town a couple of months after we moved outside city limits. But it was no big deal, we had to come into town anyway.

While outside of town, we would run the recycling into the station once a month, which meant we had a lot of recycling to bring in. I usually tried to make sure everything was separated as I went through the week. However, there were several…
